Give Me Liberty - An American Dream.
Give me liberty or give me death he said, while pondering life's existence.
Fat Boy Burger Corporate army, The Surgeon General, and the Aryan Thrust are the foes a young Marth Washington must fight against in this overall master piece by Frank Miller and artist who drew the watchmen, Drew Gibbons. I don’t think I need to say much more than that, but I will, while sipping down some Blue Flame Coffee, Check review on this coffee here.
Frank Miller takes you into a dystopian future that is so fast paced you might need to hold on to your hat so it wont blow off in this politically driven miniseries. The computer genius Martha Washington is extremely resourceful, who becomes a crazy strong soldier for the peace force.
Set in the future of 1995 to 2012, it stretches your mind between the destruction of our eco system, corruption in our political world, racial issues and the displacement of the poor into “projects” like the Green zone. Essentially Class War at its finest.
It really is a bit of a twist to find that some of the military fractions are militant female feminists living primarily in the south utilizing the confederate flag as a symbol of their identity, Nazi’s who are obviously gay men, and some serious government tyrants that could be found in many countries today. Martha Washington, strong, black, and powerful is taking them all on.
Issue one encapsulates Marth’s early life living in the slums of Cabrini Green, a ghetto created by the new age government where you see a presidents brain in a jar like Futurama. You could say that the Surgeon General has the worst case of OCD ever to exist when it comes to how he wants the world to be cleansed. This is where we also see ironically what we are seeing in todays truth, the splintering and splitting of the United States.
We find Martha in a psych hospital, her joining of the military and getting tossed into warzones across the world and even into outer-space, all to survive it all to continue the struggle against almost being assassinated, makes it through an explosion and even prevents the annihilation of a former president.
All this being portrayed by the amazing art of Dave Gibbons, who keeps you wanting more in each panel. The detail and gore is just outstanding and in some cases eye turning. Would not expect anything less from the man that gave us the brilliant art of Watchmen.
Not to toss out to many spoilers, the overall summary of this series is that you must pick it up and read it for yourself. It is truly encapsulating and deserves some new modern day attention. Maybe even a series on one of these many new streaming services.
I give it a full cup of coffee rating.
