Punisher Soviet by Garth Ennis.

Punisher Soviet, written by Garth Ennis, is a 1 through 6 mini series publication that should have been a 12 part series! This was an excellent production of Frank castle teaming up with the Russian special forces member, Valery Stepanovich, and exploring a different war as opposed to the traditional Vietnam war era that we sometimes see the Punisher involved with.

A dozen Russian mobsters lie dead at the Punisher's feet and he wasn't the one who pulled the trigger. If you know Frank Castle, you know this doesn't necessarily set his mind at ease. Punisher Soviet (2019 Marvel) #3A

Written by Garth Ennis. Art by Jacen Burrows. Cover by Paolo Rivera. Valery Stefanovich has put himself on a collision course with The Punisher. The roots of this issue go back to Afghanistan in the 1980s where Valery spent time in the Russian Special Forces and some of the most horrific things you can imagine. Things that CHANGED him. Frank and Valery have so much in common, but that never bodes well, does it?

This story focused mainly on the Russian operatives horrors he witnessed in the Russian /Afghanistan wars, especially by his own people in the Soviet Union. We also see Frank helping him try to avenge the brutal atrocities that occur to the service me he served with. We are also introduced to a woman who is married to the essential bad guy in the story, who should have had an even bigger role in the series and beyond, she came off as a badass woman with her own agenda of sorts just trying to survive life as well.

Punisher Soviet (2019 Marvel) #5A

Written by Garth Ennis. Art by Jacen Burrows. Cover by Paolo Rivera. The soul-chilling end of PUNISHER: SOVIET is here. Frank and Val have fought side-by-side against not only a Russian mob but also against the tide of history and these issues will make you see The Punisher (and possibly the world) differently than you do now.

Bottom line is you should absolutely go pick up this series, either in single issues or in the trade paper back, you will not be disapointed.
